Exquisite pair of white marble elephants painstakingly inlaid with: Carnelian (red and orange), Malachite (green), Lapis Lazuli (dark blue), Turquoise (light blue), Jasper (dark brown), abalone (dark iridescent), mother of pearl (light iridescent). These elephants are made in the traditional Parchin Kari or 'Pietra Dura' method in which the semiprecious stones are shaped by hand and inlaid into the marble. The pieces are so delicate that they can only be carved by skilled craftsmen for about 20 minutes at a time with 45 minute breaks in between as it puts an inordinate amount of strain on their fingers. This type of craftsmanship is only found in the Agra region of India and only passed down to the sons of a select number of families. This pair has been estimated to take about 7 months to produce. They truly are something to marvel at.
Please Note that all items are in original antique and vintage condition, they have been preserved at their found state and have purposefully not been restored to maintain their own unique and personal history. We believe that each imperfection tells a story.- L'uomo Curioso
